Winter Wedding Venues in and Around Montreal

Chandeliers, candlelight and great stone fireplaces: eight venues that are at their best when it is cold outside.

A photographer's guide to winter wedding venues in and around Montreal, and how to plan around the short winter light.

Last reviewed and updated: October 2026

A winter wedding in Montreal can be magical: candlelight against early darkness, fresh snow for a few minutes of portraits outside, and guests who are genuinely happy to be somewhere warm and beautiful. It also tends to mean better availability and a calmer planning season than the summer rush.

The secret is choosing a venue that is wonderful indoors. I am Cagdas Yoldas, a Montreal wedding photographer, and these are the venues in and around the city I would look at first for a winter wedding. Where I have photographed a venue, I say so; the others are researched recommendations.

Planning a Winter Wedding in Montreal

Mind the early sunset. In December, the sun sets around 4:15 p.m. in Montreal. Hold the ceremony early in the afternoon, or plan portraits before it, if you want any daylight in your photographs.

Keep the day under one roof. Venues where you can get ready, marry and celebrate in the same building save time, cold walks and wet hems.

Choose rooms with warmth. Wood, fireplaces, chandeliers and candlelight photograph beautifully in winter. Large windows matter too: they let in the soft winter daylight while you still have it.

Think about your guests. Coat check, parking or valet, and nearby hotel rooms all matter more in January than in July.

Winter Wedding Venues in Montreal

Maison Principale, Saint-Henri

Grand white ballroom at Maison Principale in Montreal under pink uplighting, cherry blossom trees on every table and crystal chandeliers overhead
The Grand Salon at Maison Principale, transformed with blossom trees and uplighting

Best for: A large, elegant winter wedding with a fully personalized design

Maison Principale is a grand blank-canvas venue with soaring white ceilings, detailed mouldings and statement crystal chandeliers. The Grand Salon can carry ambitious florals, dramatic lighting and a large dance floor without ever feeling crowded.

In winter, when everything happens indoors, that scale and neutral elegance become a real advantage: the room can be transformed into almost any atmosphere you have in mind.

Photographer's note: I have photographed many full weddings at Maison Principale. Under the chandeliers, a winter evening glows.

Ritz-Carlton Montreal, Golden Square Mile

Best for: A polished, full-service hotel wedding with nowhere to go outside

The Ritz-Carlton Montreal combines historic character, refined event spaces, guest rooms, in-house catering and a dedicated wedding team. The Oval Room is the signature reception space, with smaller rooms for more intimate weddings.

In winter, having guest rooms, the ceremony and the reception in one hotel is a gift. Sherbrooke Street and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts are right there for a short portrait walk if the snow cooperates.

Hotel William Gray, Old Montreal

Best for: A stylish boutique hotel wedding in snowy Old Montreal

Hotel William Gray brings together historic Old Montreal buildings and contemporary interiors, with event spaces ranging from intimate rooms to the larger Salle Edward. Guests can stay, eat and celebrate without stepping into the cold for long.

Old Montreal is quieter in winter than in summer, and its stone streets under fresh snow make some of the most romantic portrait settings in the city.

Crew Collective & Café, Old Montreal

Candlelight in the banking hall at Crew Collective & Café (planning by Erika co.)

Best for: A candlelit winter dinner in a spectacular historic hall

The former Royal Bank of Canada headquarters, with its gilded vaulted ceiling, marble and tall arched windows, is one of the most beautiful rooms in Montreal. It suits intimate, design-focused weddings, and very little décor is needed to make it feel festive.

As it also operates as a public café and workspace, confirm privatization options and requirements with the venue.

Photographer's note: I have photographed a full wedding here. Winter daylight through those arched windows is soft and even, and candlelight takes over beautifully as the afternoon fades.

Espace Gare Viger, Old Montreal

Best for: A big, glamorous winter celebration

Inside the former Château Viger railway station, Espace Gare Viger pairs brick, arched windows and high ceilings with the space for a large guest list and a full dance floor. Warm brick and candlelight make it feel cosy despite its size.

Photographer's note: I have photographed a full wedding here. The room handles glamour beautifully, which is exactly what a winter evening calls for.

Le Salon Richmond 1861, Little Burgundy

Best for: A dramatic, cathedral-like setting for a winter evening

Built in 1861 as St. Joseph's Church, Le Salon Richmond keeps its vaulted ceilings, arches, balconies and long nave. With strong technical capabilities for lighting and sound, the room can be made warm and intimate or grand and theatrical, and downtown hotels are close by.

Best for: A cosy, full-resort winter wedding weekend

With its monumental log architecture, great stone fireplace and warm wood interiors, Fairmont Le Château Montebello is one of the most natural winter wedding settings in Quebec. Accommodations, dining, spa services and seasonal activities are all on-site, so guests can settle in for the whole weekend.

Photographer's note: I have photographed a wedding at Château Montebello. The property works particularly well for fall and winter weddings, when the landscape and the architecture become a big part of the atmosphere.

StoneHaven Le Manoir, Laurentians

Reception in the wood-panelled hall at StoneHaven Le Manoir, brass chandeliers and long tables beneath a painted ceiling

Best for: An intimate, refined winter wedding with exceptional food

StoneHaven Le Manoir, a Relais & Châteaux hotel above Lac des Sables in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, has wood-panelled halls, antique furnishings and on-site rooms. Its focus on gastronomy and hospitality makes it an inviting place to gather your closest people when it is cold outside.

Photographer's note: I have photographed at StoneHaven. The interiors are rich enough to carry the whole gallery, even if you spend only a few minutes outdoors.
