Industrial and Modern Wedding Venues in Montreal
Exposed brick, steel beams and bright white lofts: five Montreal venues that work like a blank page.

A photographer's guide to industrial and modern wedding venues in Montreal, and what each one asks of your design and lighting.
Last reviewed and updated: October 2026
Not every couple wants a ballroom. If you picture exposed brick, steel beams, tall factory windows or a bright white loft that you can transform completely, Montreal has a small but excellent group of industrial and modern venues that work like a blank page for your planner, florist and lighting designer.
I am Cagdas Yoldas, a Montreal wedding photographer. This guide gathers the venues in the city that suit a modern, design-led wedding, and explains what makes each one different. Where I have photographed a wedding at a venue, I say so. Where I have not, the entry is a researched recommendation.
Capacities, rental rules and availability change, so confirm the details with each venue before you sign.
What to Know About Industrial and Blank-Canvas Venues
Budget for the transformation. A raw space gives you freedom, but it usually means bringing in more: furniture, lighting, draping, florals, sometimes catering equipment. Work with a planner who has produced events in these rooms before.
Lighting makes or breaks the evening. Big windows look wonderful by day. After dark, a bare loft can feel flat unless you add warm, layered light: candles, pendants, uplighting or string lights.
Plan for the photographs. Clean walls and big windows are a gift for portraits and details. Talk to your photographer about where the light falls at your ceremony time, and keep part of the room uncluttered for portraits and family photos.
Industrial and Modern Wedding Venues in Montreal
Espace L'Éloi, Mile End

Best for: Bright, minimalist weddings built around a strong design concept
Espace L'Éloi is a large rental studio in Mile End, designed for events and visual productions. Its white architecture, high ceilings, open plan and generous natural light make it one of the most flexible rooms in the city.
Because the space is modular, you can create separate zones for the ceremony, cocktails, dinner and dancing, so the evening keeps moving without ever leaving the building. A rooftop deck adds an outdoor option for the ceremony when the weather allows.
Photographer's note: I have photographed at L'Éloi. The room never competes with the décor. Florals, furniture and installations become the story, and the daylight is soft and even for portraits.
Fonderie Darling, near Old Montreal
Best for: Art-focused weddings that feel like an installation
Fonderie Darling is a contemporary visual arts centre in a former foundry, a short walk from Old Montreal. Exposed brick, high ceilings and the traces of its industrial past are all still there, and the space feels deliberately raw.
That makes it ideal for couples working with a creative team on something unexpected: dramatic lighting, large-scale floral work or immersive design. It remains an active arts space, so rentals follow the exhibition calendar and artworks may stay in the room. Ask about availability and creative restrictions early.

Espace Gare Viger, Old Montreal

Best for: Large weddings that want brick, arches and scale
Espace Gare Viger sits inside the former Château Viger railway station. It brings together the textures people love in industrial venues, brickwork, arched windows and high ceilings, with the size and flexibility of a large modern event space.
It handles big guest lists, substantial décor and a full dance floor while still feeling open, and it adapts as easily to a glamorous evening as to a pared-back modern one.
Photographer's note: I have photographed a full wedding at Espace Gare Viger. Warm brick takes candlelight beautifully, and the streets of Old Montreal are close by for portraits.

The Belvedere, Old Port of Montreal

Best for: Contemporary waterfront weddings with a panoramic view
The Belvedere, on King Edward Quay in the Old Port, has an open room framed by black steel beams and floor-to-ceiling windows over the St. Lawrence, the Jacques Cartier Bridge and Old Montreal. A covered balcony and rooftop terrace take guests outside.
The interior is neutral enough to go minimal and architectural or warm and layered, and the view does a lot of the work either way.
Photographer's note: I have photographed at The Belvedere. The long run of windows gives beautiful side light through dinner, and sunset over the port is worth planning the evening around.
La Toundra, Parc Jean-Drapeau

Best for: Modern weddings that want glass, light and gardens
La Toundra is a contemporary glass and steel hall in the Jardins des Floralies on Île Notre-Dame. Extensive windows, a mezzanine and an outdoor terrace connect the room to the gardens, with views toward the Montreal skyline.
Its neutral architecture leaves plenty of room for your own colours and styling, and original murals linked to the site's Expo 67 history add a layer of character you will not find in a typical modern venue.
Photographer's note: I have photographed many weddings at La Toundra. It is one of the few modern venues in the city where the ceremony, portraits and reception can all happen surrounded by greenery.

Planning a Modern Montreal Wedding?
Industrial and blank-canvas venues reward couples who care about design, and they are some of my favourite rooms to photograph. I help my couples plan a timeline around the light in the room, so the details, portraits and dance floor all look their best.
