Family & lifestyle

The way your
family is
right now.

The approach

Heirlooms,
not files.

I am an editorial and fine art family photographer based in Québec City and working throughout Montréal and Ottawa, making relaxed, unhurried sessions for families, mothers to be and newborns. A session should feel like an afternoon you enjoyed, not an appointment you endured. That is the whole method.

The moments you share with the people you love deserve to be beautifully documented, and to outlive the phone they would otherwise live on.

Editorial, never stiff. Whether you are drawn to gently posed portraits, a relaxed lifestyle session of unguarded moments, or a blend of both, the session is shaped around how your family actually is.

Timeless colour. Inspired by the colours of film, the images are made to look as considered in twenty years as they do the week you receive them.

Made to be kept. Genuine connection and real emotion, preserved as photographs your children will still be looking at long after they have grown.

Selected photographs

Sessions photographed in Québec City, Montréal, Ottawa and the surrounding region, at home, outdoors and everywhere in between.

Sessions

What we
photograph.

Four kinds of session, each given the time it actually needs. If you are not sure which one fits, say so when you write. That is a normal place to start.

Family sessions

For families of any size, at home or outdoors. Gently posed portraits everyone will want a copy of, alongside the unguarded moments in between.

Maternity

Quiet, elegant portraits of this stage while it lasts, photographed in a way that looks like you rather than like a studio backdrop.

Newborn

Unhurried lifestyle newborn photography in your own home during the first weeks, moving at your baby’s pace rather than a schedule.

Extended family & larger groups

Grandparents, cousins, several households at once. These need more time and often more than one location, and they are worth planning properly.

How it unfolds

From first note
to your gallery.

Nothing about a family session should be a surprise. Here is exactly how it goes, from the first message to the photographs arriving.

Before anything is booked

A conversation

Every session begins with a conversation. We talk through your vision, the people who will be there, and the kind of images you would love to have: timeless and gently posed, relaxed and documentary, or a blend of the two.

In the weeks before

Planning together

We choose a location that suits the feeling you are after, and I guide you on wardrobe and colour. Soft, neutral tones create a timeless and elegant look, while richer colours add warmth, depth and personality. If you would like analogue film alongside digital, we plan that here too.

On the day

The session

Once the details are settled, all that is left is to enjoy the time together while I document the moments that unfold naturally. I direct where it helps, which with small children it usually does, and stay out of the way where it does not.

Afterwards

Your gallery

You receive a private online gallery holding a carefully curated selection of the strongest photographs from our time together, to view, choose from, download and share, with personal printing rights so they can go on your walls rather than stay on a drive.

For couples I have married

I photograph
the whole story.

A good number of the families I photograph began as couples on their wedding day. First the vows and the first dance, then a maternity session a year or two later, a newborn in their first weeks, and birthdays after that.

There is something particular about being photographed by someone who already knows you. Nobody has to be introduced, the children are comfortable long before the camera comes out, and the pictures accumulate into one continuous record of a family rather than a set of unrelated sessions.

If I photographed your wedding, you are always welcome back.

Locations

Where sessions
happen.

Family sessions take place in Québec City, Montréal, Ottawa and the surrounding region. Travel within my regular service area is included, and sessions further afield are always possible.

At home

Your own home, with its light and its mess and the sofa everyone piles onto. Often the most honest setting, and much the easiest with small children and newborns.

Outdoors

A quiet natural setting at the hour when the light is kindest. Loveliest in the softer months, though Québec winter light has a quality of its own.

Gardens

A garden or park, where there is room for children to move and something growing in the frame.

Urban

Streets and architecture, for families who want the city they actually live in to be part of the picture.

Visiting Québec City

A family session
while you are here.

A good share of the families I photograph do not live here. They are in Québec City for a few days, often together in one place for the first time in years, and they would like something better than phone pictures to take home. Those sessions are some of my favourites, and they are easy to arrange around a trip.

When to write

As soon as your dates are set. Summer and autumn afternoons fill quickly, and a session is easier to place well when it is not competing with the rest of your itinerary.

How long it takes

About an hour. It fits into a morning or the hour before dinner, which is long enough to relax into and short enough that it does not cost you a day of the trip.

Where we go

Old Québec, the riverfront, or somewhere quieter just outside the walls. If you are staying somewhere with good light, we can begin there and walk.

Travelling together

Multi-generation trips are common here: grandparents, cousins, everyone in one frame for the first time in years. Larger groups are welcome, so tell me the numbers when you write.

Questions

Everything
worth asking.

The questions families ask most often, answered plainly. Anything not covered here, just ask when you write.

There is no fixed rule. Autumn fills up first, so if you want that colour it is worth planning a few months ahead. Newborn sessions are best mentioned while you are still expecting, so the dates can stay loose around the birth. Otherwise shorter notice is usually fine and always worth asking about.

Late spring through to autumn gives the softest light and the longest evenings, and the autumn colour here is genuinely worth planning around. Winter is quieter and often overlooked, though low sun and snow make a very particular kind of photograph. Sessions at home work in any month.

No. Small children not sitting still is the normal condition of a family session rather than a problem with it. A good part of the session is built around movement, and the photographs families end up loving are usually the ones where nobody was holding a pose.

Both, and the balance is yours to choose. I direct where it helps, for the portraits everyone will want a copy of, and stay out of the way where it does not, for the moments that only happen when nobody feels watched. We agree the mix while planning.

The third trimester usually works best, when there is clearly a bump but moving around is still comfortable. If you would like a newborn session as well, it is worth arranging the two together so the timing lines up.

The first weeks, while a newborn still curls up and sleeps deeply. Because due dates move, we keep the date loose and settle it once your baby has arrived. Newborn sessions happen in your own home rather than a studio.

Yes, and they are very welcome. Grandparents, cousins and several households in one session all work well. They simply need more time and usually several groupings, so tell me who is coming when you write and we will plan for it properly.

Yes. Dogs are part of the family and they photograph beautifully. Mention it in advance so we can choose a location that suits them and plan the moments where someone can hold the lead just out of frame.

Yes. I incorporate analogue film alongside digital as a hybrid session, which gives unmatched colour and an authentic, nostalgic feel that makes a gallery genuinely one of a kind. It is available on request, so mention it when you inquire and we will plan it in.

Yes, and a good share of my family work is exactly that. Families in town for a few days book an hour in Old Québec, along the riverfront or somewhere quieter outside the walls, and it slots into a morning or the hour before dinner without costing a day of the trip. Write as soon as your dates are set, since summer and autumn afternoons fill quickly, and mention the group size if grandparents or cousins are travelling with you.
