Top 10 Outdoor Wedding Venues in and Around Montreal

Gardens, vineyards, orchards and lakeside lawns in and around Montreal, with the rain plan for each one.

A photographer's guide to outdoor wedding venues near Montreal: where the ceremony happens, what to do if it rains, and when the light is best.

Last reviewed and updated: October 2026

An outdoor wedding near Montreal can mean a vineyard terrace in Laval, a lawn running down to Lake Saint-Louis, an orchard below Mont-Saint-Hilaire or a cobbled terrace above the Eastern Townships hills. What these venues have in common is that the setting does a great deal of the work. What separates the good ones from the great ones is everything around the ceremony: where guests go if it rains, how the light falls at the hour you say your vows, and how easily the day moves from outdoors to indoors.

I am Cagdas Yoldas, a Montreal and Quebec wedding photographer, and I have photographed at every venue on this list. This guide looks at each one specifically as an outdoor venue: where the ceremony usually happens, what the property offers when the weather turns, and what I would plan around if I were building your photography timeline there.

The list starts with venues on the island of Montreal, moves to properties within about an hour of the city, then finishes with destination-style venues that are worth the longer drive. For a wider view that includes hotels, ballrooms and industrial spaces, see my full guide to the best wedding venues in Montreal and nearby.

Capacities, ceremony locations and policies change from season to season, so confirm the current details directly with each venue before you book.

‍

What Makes a Great Outdoor Wedding Venue

A rain plan you would be happy to use. Montreal summers are beautiful and unpredictable. The best outdoor venues have a covered terrace, a tent site or an indoor room that feels like a real second choice rather than a compromise. Ask to see the rain option on your site visit, not only the lawn.

Ceremony timing and light. A ceremony in full midday sun means squinting guests and hard shadows. Ask where the sun sits at your ceremony time, and whether the ceremony site has shade. Late afternoon ceremonies usually look and feel better.

Short distances. When the ceremony, cocktail hour and portraits happen within a few steps of each other, you spend more of the day with your guests and less of it walking between locations.

Guest comfort. Think about heat, insects near water, uneven ground for heels and older guests, and how far the parking is from the ceremony site.

Outdoor Wedding Venues in Montreal

Best for: Garden ceremonies in the city, with a large indoor room right beside them

La Toundra sits in the Jardins des Floralies on Île Notre-Dame, a short drive from downtown but surrounded by gardens, cedars and water. The ceremony usually takes place in the garden or on the terrace just outside the building, and cocktail hour can spill out among the trees.

What makes it such a reliable outdoor venue is the room next to the garden. The main hall has extensive windows, a mezzanine and enough space for dinner, speeches and dancing, so a change in the weather means moving a few metres rather than changing the whole plan.

Photographer's note: I have photographed many weddings at La Toundra. The gardens give you greenery in every direction, and the skyline view toward the city adds a Montreal sense of place that most garden venues cannot offer. Summer and early fall are the best seasons here, when the terrace and gardens are in full use.

Best for: Lakeside ceremonies with a classic, private-club feeling

The Forest & Stream Club is a historic waterfront property in Dorval, on the West Island, overlooking Lake Saint-Louis. Mature trees and landscaped grounds lead down to the water, and ceremonies can take place on the lawn by the lake, with guests seated on the grass.

The ceremony, portraits, cocktail hour and reception can all happen on-site. If the weather does not cooperate, the clubhouse interior, with its warm wood and old-world atmosphere, gives the day a very different but equally elegant setting. Being close to the airport is also helpful when many guests are flying in.

Photographer's note: I have photographed many weddings here. The lawn and waterfront are the strongest settings on the property, especially later in the day when the light softens over the lake. I like to keep a short window just before sunset for portraits by the water.

Best for: Vineyard ceremonies with château architecture, close to the city

Château Taillefer Lafon is in Sainte-Dorothée, in Laval, just across the river from Montreal. It is the closest thing to a European wine estate within easy reach of the city: a stone château with a slate mansard roof, a terrace, gardens and rows of vines.

Ceremonies can be set right beside the vineyard, and the terrace works well for the reception on a warm evening. Inside, chandeliers, large windows and formal details give the day a polished indoor alternative. The reception spaces now suit intimate and mid-sized weddings, so confirm the right room and current capacity with the venue.

Photographer's note: I have photographed many weddings at Château Taillefer Lafon. The vines, gardens and façade are all within a compact area, which means we can create a lot of variety in a short portrait session without taking you away from your guests.

Best for: Relaxed orchard weddings where the whole day happens outdoors

Verger du Flanc Nord is an orchard and cidery on the slopes of Mont-Saint-Hilaire. The property has orchards, open fields, a pond, farm animals and two Nordic-inspired event rooms that look out over the landscape. Ceremonies often take place beneath a mature willow beside the water, with the orchard rising behind the guests.

The event rooms are the rain plan, and they feel more contemporary than a typical barn, so a wet day does not force you into a fully rustic look. Because the orchard is also a public seasonal destination, ask how public activities, parking and access will be handled on your date.

Photographer's note: I have photographed a full wedding here, and the variety was what stood out: the willow, the orchard rows, the pathways, the fields and the animals, all without leaving the property. Late summer and apple season are especially beautiful.

The indoor ceremony option at Le Café de l'Horloge

Best for: Intimate garden and waterside weddings with historic character

Le Café de l'Horloge is a restored historic post office in Rigaud, west of Montreal on the way to Ottawa. The red brick building and its clock tower sit among greenery beside the water, with a garden and a waterfront terrace that both work beautifully for a ceremony.

Inside, a stained-glass window, a fireplace and high ceilings make the indoor room a genuinely lovely alternative, and it can host the ceremony itself if needed. The venue suits intimate celebrations, with more flexibility for cocktail-style or outdoor events.

Photographer's note: I have photographed both weddings and an editorial here. On one wedding day the couple got ready on-site, married outdoors and moved inside for the reception, and keeping everything in one place made the day feel unhurried.

Outdoor Venues Worth the Drive

These properties are one to two hours or more from Montreal, which makes them better suited to a wedding weekend than a single evening. In return you get mountains, lakes, vineyards and space that the city cannot offer.

Best for: Dramatic vineyard ceremonies with mountain views

Château Ste-Agnès is a historic vineyard estate in Sutton, in the Eastern Townships, with terraced vines, cobbled terraces, stone architecture and views of the Appalachian Mountains. Outdoor ceremonies on the terrace look out over the valley, and there is a designated area for couples who want to put up a marquee.

The estate's Romanesque-style chapel is a beautiful option for a smaller ceremony or a rainy day, and the château's interiors and wine cellars add even more variety. The venue does not require an in-house caterer, which gives you more freedom with your menu.

Photographer's note: I have photographed at Château Ste-Agnès, and few venues in Quebec give this much variety in one place. We can move from intimate moments by the chapel to wide views over the vineyard and mountains within minutes.

Best for: Intimate garden weddings with the whole group staying on-site

Manoir Maplewood is a historic manor in Waterloo, surrounded by mature trees and lush grounds. The gardens make a romantic setting for a ceremony, and the manor is privatized for one group at a time, so the whole weekend can unfold without sharing the property.

The rain plan is one of the strongest on this list: the manor has an indoor room that can be set for the ceremony, with an aisle beneath a chandelier, so the day keeps its atmosphere even if you have to move inside. The venue currently suits intimate and mid-sized celebrations.

Photographer's note: I photographed an editorial at Manoir Maplewood. The grounds feel peaceful and romantic, and the staircases, windows and individually designed rooms inside add plenty of variety for portraits.

Best for: Refined garden ceremonies with lake views and luxury hospitality

StoneHaven Le Manoir is a restored historic hotel in the Laurentians, overlooking Lac des Sables in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts. It is part of Relais & Châteaux, and its Italian garden, with clipped hedges and a pergola, is one of the most elegant outdoor ceremony settings in the region.

Cocktails can move onto the stone terrace, and the manor's wood-panelled interiors give the reception a warm, formal setting whatever the weather. On-site rooms make it easy to turn the wedding into a full weekend.

Photographer's note: I have photographed at StoneHaven. The garden, the architecture and the lake views give a lot of variety without the property ever feeling oversized.

Best for: Intimate lakeside weddings at a private heritage estate

Manoir Davis is a century-old estate perched above Lac des Sables, also in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, surrounded by gardens, mountains and water. The lake-facing terrace works for both the ceremony and cocktail hour, and the property has hosted tented receptions on its brick terrace.

If the weather turns, the main reception room has floor-to-ceiling views of the landscape, so you still feel connected to the lake. With accommodations on-site, it suits a welcome evening, the wedding day and a relaxed brunch the next morning.

Photographer's note: I have photographed both a wedding and an editorial at Manoir Davis. The relationship between the manor and the landscape is its greatest strength: terrace, gardens, staircases and lake views, all within one private estate.

Best for: Clifftop ceremonies with panoramic views and an all-inclusive experience

Le Belvédère is in the Outaouais, near Wakefield, a short drive north of Ottawa. It is the one venue on this list that is closer to Ottawa than to Montreal, but Montreal couples planning a destination weekend often consider it, and the view explains why. Its elevated terrace overlooks the Gatineau Hills, and the ceremony takes place in front of a curved timber pavilion with the valley beyond.

The modern hall is designed to keep the landscape in view, so even an indoor change of plan does not lose the scenery. The venue offers a structured experience with planning support, a final walkthrough and a menu tasting.

Photographer's note: I have photographed at Le Belvédère, and the view makes the whole property feel dramatic. Because it is so central to the day, plan the ceremony time around the season's sunset, and keep time after dinner for portraits in the last light.

Planning an Outdoor Wedding Near Montreal?

An outdoor wedding asks a little more of the timeline: the ceremony time needs to suit the light, the rain plan needs to be ready, and portraits need to happen when the setting looks its best. I help my couples build a photography timeline around all three, so the day feels relaxed rather than rushed.

If you are still comparing venues, my complete guide to wedding venues in Montreal and nearby covers more than twenty-five venues, including hotels, historic buildings and industrial spaces.
