A Wedding to Remember at Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu

Charlevoix is the point where the St. Lawrence stops behaving like a river. It widens until the far shore is a suggestion rather than a line, and Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu sits on the bluff above it. That view is the reason Genevieve and Nicolas married here.

An outdoor ceremony above the river

The ceremony was held outside, with the water behind them. Outdoor ceremonies on this coast come with a real weather risk, but when the day cooperates there is very little a designer needs to add: the scale of the landscape does the work, and the light off the water stays soft much later than it would inland.

One moment stands out from the day. Rather than only receiving toasts, the couple raised one to their guests — a small inversion that changed the temperature of the room and gave the reception a generosity you cannot plan for.

A planner's last wedding

The day was coordinated by Kim Ahonoukoun, and it was her farewell to wedding planning. Knowing that changes how you watch someone work. There is a particular care in the way a person handles the last of something, and it showed in how smoothly this one ran.

Florals were by Yves Chenier, music by Keith Whitlock, and the bride's shoes by Stuart Weitzman.

Planning a wedding in Charlevoix

Charlevoix is roughly two hours from Quebec City, which makes it a genuine destination wedding within the province. Give guests somewhere to stay on or near the property, build in time for the drive, and treat the weather plan as a real second option rather than a formality — the coast changes its mind quickly.
