Eastern Townships Wedding Venues: A Photographer's Guide
Four Eastern Townships venues, from a private lakeside estate to a vineyard château, with notes from a photographer.

A photographer's guide to wedding venues in the Eastern Townships: Maison Bolton, Manoir Maplewood, Château Ste-Agnès and Manoir Hovey, and what each offers for a wedding weekend.
The Eastern Townships are one of the easiest regions to recommend to couples who want a destination wedding without a long journey. Most Eastern Townships wedding venues sit roughly one to two hours from Montreal, which keeps travel reasonable for guests while still giving the weekend the feel of an escape. This guide covers four venues I have photographed: Maison Bolton, Manoir Maplewood, Château Ste-Agnès and Manoir Hovey.
Vineyards, mountains, historic architecture and open countryside are what the region does best. Many properties are designed for celebrations that run longer than one evening. Private estates, on-site accommodations and large grounds give you more time with your closest guests and let the whole weekend feel connected.
Maison Bolton, Bolton-Ouest

Best for: private estate weddings with a contemporary feel and an immersive weekend.
Maison Bolton is a private countryside estate set across 244 acres of meadows, wooded trails and lakefront scenery. Updated interiors sit alongside open landscapes, complete privacy and a permanent event tent that can be set up for a ceremony, cocktails or a reception.
I photographed an editorial at Maison Bolton, and the variety of settings stood out right away: refined interior spaces, a tree-lined entrance, open fields, water views and quiet corners surrounded by nature. That range means a visually varied gallery without leaving the property.
It suits couples who want privacy, creative freedom and a celebration that feels more like a shared retreat than a single-day event. Its scale also gives planners and designers room for an ambitious concept while keeping the relaxed mood of a countryside wedding. I wrote a full Maison Bolton wedding photographer's guide if you are considering it. Visit Maison Bolton's website.
Manoir Maplewood, Waterloo

Best for: intimate destination weddings with historic character and on-site accommodations.
Manoir Maplewood is a historic manor in Waterloo, surrounded by mature trees and lush grounds. Character-filled interiors and the privacy of an exclusive estate make it a good fit for couples who want to spend the whole wedding weekend with their closest people.
I photographed an editorial here, and the property offers a strong mix of indoor and outdoor locations. The grounds feel peaceful and romantic, while the architecture, staircases, windows and individually designed rooms add variety inside.
Manoir Maplewood is currently intended for intimate and mid-sized celebrations, and it is privatized for one group at a time, so nothing else shares the space. A welcome gathering, the wedding and a relaxed morning after can all happen in one place, which gives the weekend a personal, residential feel. Visit Manoir Maplewood's website.
Château Ste-Agnès, Sutton

Best for: romantic vineyard weddings with European architecture and mountain views.
Château Ste-Agnès is a historic vineyard estate in Sutton, surrounded by 173 acres of terraces, vines, stone architecture and views of the Appalachian Mountains. The property includes a Neo-Renaissance château, a Romanesque-style chapel, underground wine cellars, cobblestone terraces and several indoor and outdoor event settings.
I photographed an editorial here, and the estate has a cinematic quality that feels distinctly European. The terraced vineyard, stone walls, chapel, interiors and mountain scenery give you an unusual amount of variety within one property, from intimate, romantic frames to wide landscapes.
The chapel works for smaller ceremonies, while outdoor ceremonies can use the vineyard and mountain views. A designated area is available if you want to install a marquee. The venue does not require an in-house caterer, so you have more freedom to choose a culinary team that fits your priorities and budget. You can see how a day looked in my Château Ste-Agnès editorial, planned by Foudamour with flowers by Atelier Carmel. Visit Château Ste-Agnès's website.
Manoir Hovey, North Hatley

Best for: lakeside weddings with classic New England character and a full weekend for guests.
Manoir Hovey sits on a wooded stretch of shoreline along Lake Massawippi. The manor was built at the turn of the twentieth century as a summer residence, when North Hatley was a retreat for wealthy American families, and it still carries that relaxed, lakeside grandeur. Today it is a Relais & Châteaux property with guest rooms on-site and its own restaurant and kitchen team.
I photographed a wedding at Manoir Hovey, and what stood out was how much the property offers within a short walk. The ceremony lawn opens onto the lake, the white verandas and columns are wrapped in climbing vines, and stone garden paths wind between the buildings. Even on an overcast day, the soft light and greenery made every corner feel calm and romantic.
Ceremonies usually take place on the lawn overlooking the water, with cocktails and dinner moving into the manor's indoor spaces. The waterfront, docks and gardens give you quiet places for portraits without leaving the grounds. It is a natural choice if you want guests to stay together for a welcome evening, the wedding and a slow morning by the lake. The drive from Montreal is roughly an hour and a half. Visit Manoir Hovey's website.
