Engagement Photographer in Quebec City and Montreal

Before the wedding,
just the two of you.

Relaxed, editorial engagement photos in Old Québec, in Old Montréal or somewhere that already means something to you. One unhurried hour, gently guided, for save-the-dates, your wedding website or simply for yourselves. Some of my wedding collections include a complimentary engagement session.

How the session unfolds

One hour,
in three parts.

i.

Arrive

The first ten minutes are for settling in. We walk, talk and I take a few frames while you forget about the camera.

ii.

Walk

Two or three nearby spots, simple prompts instead of stiff poses, and room for whatever happens between them.

iii.

Unwind

With the nerves gone, the last part is slower. You are simply together, and these are often the frames couples choose to print.

Where we can go

Engagement photos,
two cities.

Quebec City

Old Québec and the Upper Town

Terrasse Dufferin and the Château Frontenac

The Plains of Abraham above the river

Petit Champlain at first light

Montreal

Old Montréal and the Old Port

Mount Royal in autumn

Saint Joseph's Oratory and its grand stairs

The Lachine Canal at golden hour

Your own neighbourhood, café or street

Planning a wedding in Ottawa or Toronto? I photograph engagement sessions there too, with travel quoted up front.

Spring

Fresh green on the Plains of Abraham and soft, changeable light.

Summer

Long evenings and golden hour well after dinner.

Autumn

The most requested season, with colour on Mount Royal and the Plains.

Winter

Snow in the old town, warm coats and very quiet streets.

What to wear

Dress like
yourselves.

Coordinate, do not match. Two palettes that sit well together photograph better than identical colours.

Choose texture over pattern. Wool, linen and silk move beautifully; large logos and busy prints compete with you.

Plan an outfit change. A second outfit gives your gallery more varied photos, and I suggest one as part of a longer engagement session.

“Right from the start, his gentle and kind approach made us feel at ease in front of the camera.”

Questions

Engagement
session FAQ.

01How long is an engagement session?

About an hour. That is enough for two or three nearby locations and plenty of variety, without anyone getting tired of the camera.

02Where are the best places for engagement photos in Quebec City?

Old Québec and the Upper Town, Terrasse Dufferin, Petit Champlain and the Plains of Abraham. In Montreal, Old Montréal, the Old Port, Mount Royal, Saint Joseph's Oratory and the Lachine Canal all work beautifully.

03What if we feel awkward in front of the camera?

That is normal, and it is exactly what the session is for. I guide you with simple prompts rather than poses, and most couples relax within the first few minutes of walking.

04What should we wear for engagement photos?

Something you feel like yourselves in, in colours that work together without matching. Choose texture over busy patterns. An outfit change gives you more varied photos, and I suggest one for longer engagement sessions.

05When is the best time of day?

The hour after sunrise or before sunset gives the softest light and the fewest people in Old Québec. In winter, early afternoon light can be just as beautiful.

06Can we use the photos for our save-the-dates?

Yes. Your gallery usually arrives within two to eight weeks, depending on the season, which leaves time for save-the-dates, a wedding website or a welcome sign.

07Can we book an engagement session without a wedding?

Yes. Sessions can be booked on their own or with your wedding photography, and some of my wedding collections include a complimentary engagement session.

08Do you photograph engagement sessions outside Quebec City and Montreal?

Yes, in Ottawa and Toronto, and abroad when it fits a destination wedding. Travel is quoted up front.

Planning your engagement photos?

An hour for the two of you,
before everything begins.

Tell me where you would like to go, roughly when, and whether the photos are for save-the-dates or simply for you. I will reply personally with availability and a few location ideas.
